The Rama Rebbapragada Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Cruise Industry in Asia
UBM proudly introduces the inaugural Rama Rebbapragada Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Cruise Industry in Asia.
The award will honor an individual who has made a particularly noteworthy contribution to the development of the cruise industry in Asia, distinguishing themselves through their dedication to, and passion for, the industry within the Pan-Asia region.
The award's namesake, Rama Rebbapragada, embodied this dedication. During his quarter-century-long career with Royal Caribbean, Rama created awareness of the potential of the Asia-Pacific cruise market to the international cruise community, while being a true friend to all who knew him all over the world.
Upon his passing last year, Adam Goldstein, President & CEO of Royal Caribbean International, said that Rama "may have had the widest circle of friends of anyone in the cruise industry."
Rama and his family lived in Singapore between 2006 and 2009, during which time he led the company's entry into the Asia Pacific region, opening the line's regional headquarters in Singapore, as well as the first representative offices in Shanghai, followed by Beijing, Guangzhou and Sydney. Rama was also instrumental in the formation of the Asia Cruise Association, serving as its first Chair.
Rama emphasized working together as an industry, on issues such as building consumer and trade awareness for cruising through travel consultant training, and working with government agencies to develop a cruise-friendly environment in Asia. The Rama Rebbapragada Award is dedicated to his memory and will recognize someone who, like him, has played a significant role in developing the cruise industry in the region.
The winner will be chosen by a select group of industry leaders, and will be presented during Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific by Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Michael Bayley, who was a close friend and colleague of Rama's for many years.
Nominees will be judged on the following criteria:
- Has made an outstanding contribution to the cruise industry in the Asia-Pacific region in 2013

- Represented the industry with dignity and professionalism
